Guerlain
olfactory symphonies

Maison Guerlain has long crafted exceptional fragrances, with Jacques Guerlain famously comparing perfume composition to a musical score—both built on accords, notes, and harmony.

Building on this proximity and Guerlain’s knack for innovation, the Olfactory Symphonies project invites patrons not only to smell a perfume but to hear it.
Each raw ingredient is matched to a unique sonic signature (instrument, tone, nuance), allowing every fragrance to be translated into a symphony that mirrors its olfactory balance. To inaugurate the process, we celebrated Shalimar’s 100th anniversary with a first composition, created in collaboration with Guerlain master perfumer Delphine Jelk and IRCAM sound designers.
